: Manual lymphatic drainage

Therapeutic massage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a soft and slow therapeutic massage, which allows stimulation of the flow of lymph through the organism to the lymph nodes to ease the evacuation of the surplus liquids and metabolic wastes.

Lymphatic drainage is a leg or arm massage technique helping in case of venous or lymphatic insufficiency. These can be diagnosed with an echo Doppler or a lymph scanning.

Venous insufficiency are often seen in the legs. Symptoms are swollen legs, pains and heavy legs feeling, particularly at the end of the day. It can also be more localised such as only swollen ankles and calf pain.

Lymphatic drainage can also be prescribed after a breast cancer surgery. Indeed, this operation can have an impact on the lymphatic system which can have problems to work again properly. The risk to have a swollen arm is greater after a complete removal of breast (breast cancer surgery) than after a lumpectomy.

• People having suffered from breast cancer
• People suffering from varicose veins.
• People having Inflammation (e.g. after a sprained ankle)
